Let’s jump into some of the hidden gems you will find in Dubai.
1. Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina is a stunning waterfront district, known for its modern architecture, luxury residences, and dynamic lifestyle.
Developed along a two-mile stretch of the Persian Gulf shoreline, Dubai Marina is an artificial canal neighbourhood.
Which has become one of the city’s most sought-after residential and leisure destinations.
The heart of Dubai Marina is its intricate canal system, surrounded by a mix of residential and commercial buildings.
The Marina Walk is a pedestrian-friendly promenade that runs along the water’s edge.
It is lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops.
It’s a popular destination for residents and visitors alike, providing a lively atmosphere day and night.
Also, it is a popular area for walking, jogging, and enjoying views of the yachts and boats.
Located at the center of the district, Dubai Marina Mall offers a range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
The Dubai Marina Yacht Club is a hub for maritime activities, offering different facilities for private yachts and event hosting.

Also, Dubai Opera offers stunning views of iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain.
The true hidden gem is the terrace which is a popular spot for pre-show gatherings and post-show relaxation.

If you are in the mood for some shopping, check out these places.
4. City Walk
City Walk in Dubai is a mixed-use development situated centrally in the city.
It combines shopping, entertainment, dining, and living spaces, creating a community-centric environment.
The area is designed to be pedestrian-friendly, featuring contemporary architecture, tree-lined streets, and public spaces.
Also, City Walk offers a variety of boutiques, restaurants, and cafes, catering to both local and international preferences.
In addition, the area hosts cultural events and unique art installations.
City Walk contributes to Dubai’s urban landscape with its modern infrastructure and diverse amenities.
It is located relatively close to the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain, and Dubai Mall.
A lot of the locals go to City Walk, so it is not overrun by tourists like other places.
I would recommend going in the evening because the place is particularly pretty at night and during the day it would be too hot to walk around outside.
What is a good place to get food in City Walk?
A cute, little café that we checked out in City Walk is the Secret Garden.
The walls adorned with flowers create an aesthetically pleasing backdrop for capturing pictures.
The menu features a selection of brunch items such as bowls, baked goods, eggs benedict, shakshouka, pancakes, crepes, and more.
For lunch and dinner, an array of options includes salads, pasta, burgers, and so on.
Additionally, a selection of signature cocktails, teas, coffee, and freshly squeezed juices is available.
The dessert offerings, baked fresh daily, look out of this world.
It’s worth noting that their menu is comprehensive, featuring a wide range of items, so it’s advisable to check it out before your visit.
The coffee shop operates from 10 AM to 11 PM.
I had the Emerald Matcha and it was great.
5. Ibn Battuta Mall
The UAE is known as the land of malls so here is another one to check out.
Ibn Battuta Mall is a large shopping mall located in Dubai.
Named after the renowned 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta, the mall is inspired by his travels through six different regions: Andalusia, Tunisia, Egypt, Persia, India, and China.
Each section of the mall is designed to reflect the architectural and cultural characteristics of these regions, creating a unique and immersive shopping experience.
The Andalusia part immerses visitors in Moorish Spain, adorned with intricate tiles and archways.
Check out the star-shaped ceiling and the Fountain of Lions that are inspired by the Alhambra Palace in Spain.
Tunisia’s section captures the essence of North Africa with its vibrant colors and intricate patterns.
It is modelled after the coastal towns of Tunisia and Carthage and the ceiling looks like sky with clouds.
The Egypt Court, reminiscent of the Pharaonic era, is adorned with hieroglyphics and statues.
Moving eastward, the Persia part showcases the ancient Persian culture. It is all covered in blue and gold tiles.
The India Court is a vibrant celebration of Indian art and architecture, featuring a replica of the Taj Mahal.
Finally, the China section transports visitors to the Far East, with its traditional Chinese design elements.
In the middle of it, you will see a large Chinese Ship replica which used to be one of the most seaworthy vessels at that time.
Also, the mall features a diverse range of retail outlets, including international and local brands, along with a variety of dining options.
If you’re looking to go shopping and want to see incredibly beautiful ceilings and walls at the same time I would recommend checking out Ibn Battuta Mall.
6. The Mall of the Emirates
You guessed it, yet another mall on the list!
The Mall of the Emirates in Dubai stands as a hub of shopping, entertainment, and luxury experiences.
This expansive mall offers an unparalleled retail adventure, housing a diverse collection of high-end fashion boutiques, electronics stores, and popular international brands.
Its distinct feature, Ski Dubai, an indoor ski resort with real snow, adds a touch of winter wonder to the desert city.
From skiing and snowboarding on various slopes of different difficulty levels to engaging in family-friendly activities like tubing, the facility caters to a diverse range of preferences.
The unique addition of the Penguin Encounter allows guests to interact with these charming creatures in a carefully controlled setting.
Keep in mind that Ski Dubai and the Penguin Encounter are pricey experiences.

However, they do provide you with all of the equipment you need so you can simply show up and don’t have to worry about anything else.
We didn’t have a chance to go inside but we were able to see the penguins from the outside while other people were doing the encounter.
Other than Ski Dubai and the Penguin Encounter, the Mall of the Emirates is similar to the rest of the malls.
Beyond shopping, the mall is a haven for entertainment, featuring a multiplex cinema, gaming zones, and a family entertainment center.
Also, there is a wide array of dining options, from casual eateries to upscale restaurants.

7. Mirdif City Center + Yummy Belgian Waffles & Crepes
Mirdif City Centre is a shopping mall located in the Mirdif area of Dubai.
It is a retail and entertainment destination in the city, offering a diverse range of shopping, dining, and leisure experiences.
We specifically went to Mirdif City Center to have breakfast at Yummy Belgian Waffles & Crepes.
This is probably one of the best brunches we had while I was in Dubai.
If you have time or if you are craving Belgian waffles or crepes, I highly recommend checking out this place.
Also, they have a lot of locally inspired meals!!
At Yummy Belgian Waffles & Crepes is also where I tried the famous saffron latte.
However, keep in mind that the saffron latte is quite sweet, and if you don’t like sweet drinks (like me) ask them to put the sweetener on the side.

8. Black Palace Beach
Black Palace Beach, also known as Al Sufouh Beach or Secret Beach, is a somewhat hidden and less frequented beach.
This beach is known for its tranquility, scenic views, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some of the more popular beaches in the city.
Black Palace Beach offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf, the Palm Jumeirah, and the Burj Al Arab hotel.
It’s particularly known for providing a picturesque setting during sunset.
Due to its relatively hidden location and limited access, Black Palace Beach tends to be quieter compared to more well-known beaches.
This makes it an attractive option for those seeking a more peaceful and secluded beach experience.
The scenic backdrop and serene ambiance make Black Palace Beach a popular spot for photographers looking to capture the beauty of the coastline and the cityscape.
It’s important to note that Black Palace Beach has limited facilities and amenities compared to more popular beaches – no toilets or food places.
Therefore, visitors may need to bring their essentials, such as water, snacks, and beach equipment.
Also, access to Black Palace Beach can be a bit challenging, as there is no official entrance or signage.
Some visitors may choose to access the beach through nearby residential areas.
Free parking is available as well.
9. Jebel Ali Beach
Jebel Ali Beach is a public beach located in the Jebel Ali area and offers a stretch of sandy shoreline along the Arabian Gulf.
The beach provides a more relaxed and less crowded environment compared to some of the more central beaches in Dubai.
It offers beautiful views of the Arabian Gulf, providing a tranquil setting for beachgoers to enjoy the sea and the horizon.
This beach is known for its relatively quieter and more laid-back atmosphere, making it a great spot for those seeking a peaceful day by the water.
The calm waters of the Arabian Gulf at Jebel Ali Beach make it suitable for various water activities, including swimming and water sports.
Some of the water sports you will see people practise are surfing, kite surfing, windsurfing & jetskiing.
Also, the beach area has some designated picnic spots and open areas, making it suitable for families and groups looking to enjoy a beach day with their own refreshments.
Jebel Ali Beach is easily accessible by car, there is usually ample parking available; you can even park directly at the beach.
It is located near the Jebel Ali Free Zone and the Jebel Ali Port; approximately 30 minutes away from Dubai Marina.
Keep in mind that Jebel Ali Beach doesn’t have any facilities – there are no change rooms, public washrooms or any food options available.
10. Kite Beach
Kite Beach is a popular stretch of shoreline known for its pristine sand and outdoor activities.
Situated along Jumeirah Beach Road, Kite Beach has gained fame as a prime destination for kite surfers and beach enthusiasts.
Kite Beach is particularly renowned for its consistent winds, making it an ideal spot for kite surfing and other water sports that require wind.
Also, the beach offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and Burj Al Arab, creating a picturesque backdrop.
Beyond water sports, Kite Beach provides a range of recreational facilities, including jogging tracks, a beach library, areas for kids to play, skate parks, and beach volleyball courts.
In addition, there are some public showers and bathrooms available.
There is parking available but it could be difficult to find a spot, especially on the weekends. Some areas are free and some you will need to pay per hour for parking.
Also, the beach features a variety of restaurants and cafes along the promenade, allowing visitors to enjoy a diverse selection of refreshments while enjoying the views.
With its stunning views and a plethora of activities, Kite Beach is becoming more and more popular with locals and tourists seeking outdoor recreation and relaxation.
The day we visited, it rained (believe it or not) so there were not too many people on the beach, but there would’ve been more visitors on a warmer day.
I did see some people swimming and I dipped my toes in the water – it wasn’t too bad (I was there at the beginning of April).
Dubai Hidden Gems – Nature
Are you into exploring nature – kayaking, cycling and so on? This next section is for you.
11. Love Lake
Love Lake is a man-made lake located in the Al Qudra area in the middle of the Al Salam Desert.
It is located about a 30 to 40-minute drive from Dubai.
The lake is uniquely shaped like two interlocking hearts, symbolizing love and romance.
Love Lake is a Dubai hidden gem perfect for couples, families, and nature enthusiasts.
The area around Love Lake is landscaped with jogging and cycling tracks, picnic areas, and green spaces.
Love Lake has become a habitat for various bird species, attracting birdwatchers and nature photographers.
The presence of birds adds to the natural charm of the area; spot the swans in the lake.
Also, the area is home to more than 100 species of animals and plants.
In this oasis, every element is devoted to love, featuring heart sculptures and landscaped trees arranged to spell the word ‘love’ when viewed from above.
However, it is not allowed to swim in the lake.
Love Lake Dubai welcomes visitors 24 hours a day and is free to enter.
You can camp on-site as well as have a barbecue (in the designated spots, only charcoal barbecues are allowed).
Love Lake is a serene and picturesque destination that offers a peaceful retreat from the urban hustle of Dubai.
Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty, engage in outdoor activities, and appreciate the carefully designed landscape surrounding the heart-shaped lake.

12. Wadi Shawka
Wadi Shawka is a picturesque wadi (valley or dry riverbed) located in the Hajar Mountains.
It is near the town of Shawka in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
Is about an hour and 15 mins drive from Dubai.
This natural attraction is famous for its stunning mountainous landscapes, rocky terrain, and seasonal water pools.
Wadi Shawka offers opportunities for hiking and trekking, allowing outdoor enthusiasts to explore the rugged terrain and enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
There are various trails of different difficulty levels.
Also, the wadi is a popular destination for mountain biking enthusiasts.
The rocky paths and challenging terrain provide an adventurous biking experience amidst scenic surroundings.
During the rainy season or after heavy rainfall, Wadi Shawka may have natural pools of water, creating refreshing spots where visitors can cool off.
The wadi is characterized by interesting rock formations and geological features, making it the perfect destination for nature lovers and photographers.
In addition, Wadi Shawka supports some plant and animal life adapted to the mountainous environment.
Some areas around Wadi Shawka may allow camping, providing an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to spend a night under the stars.

13. Hatta
This one is a bit farther away – 135 km from downtown Dubai.
Hatta is a town located in the Hajar Mountains, near the eastern border of the Emirate of Dubai.
It is an exclave of Dubai, surrounded by the Emirate of Sharjah and the Sultanate of Oman.
Hatta is famous for its natural beauty, mountainous landscapes, and cultural attractions.
Hatta Dam, also known as the Hatta Reservoir, is a popular spot for outdoor activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat trips.
The serene waters are surrounded by the Hajar Mountains, providing a picturesque setting.
Hatta Heritage Village is a restored heritage site that offers a glimpse into the traditional way of life in the region.
It includes old houses, a fort, and exhibits showcasing traditional Emirati craftsmanship and culture.
The Hajar Mountains around Hatta provide opportunities for hiking and trekking. There are trails of varying difficulty levels, offering stunning views of the mountainous terrain.
Hatta has become a hub for mountain biking enthusiasts. The Mountain Bike Trail Centre features a network of trails catering to different skill levels.
The Hatta Wadi Hub is an adventure park offering activities such as zip-lining, rope courses, and adventure hikes. It caters to those seeking outdoor and adrenaline-fueled experiences.
Also, the region has natural rock pools. Visitors can explore and enjoy the refreshing waters in a scenic mountain setting.
Hatta offers camping opportunities in its natural surroundings. Some locations provide designated camping sites, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the mountains under the stars.
Hatta and Wadi Shawka are close to each other so you can do them in one day if you wish.

Dubai Hidden Gems – Animal Encounters
If you love animals like me, this section is for you.
14. Ras Al Khor
I must say I did not expect to find flamingos in the UAE.
Ras Al Khor, situated along Dubai Creek is a Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for biodiversity and migratory birds.
The sanctuary, with its Flamingo Hide offering intimate views of these elegant birds, stands as a testament to Dubai’s commitment to preserving natural habitats.
Also, the area encompasses mangrove forests along the creek, contributing to the ecological richness of the region.
Ras Al Khor is located close to Downtown Dubai, you can easily see Burj Khalifa.
In addition, Ras Al Khor is free to enter.
There are three points to view the birds from and you drive from point to point. Point 2 was where the flamingos were.
In the other two points, you see mostly marsh and you can spot some birds here and there but if you are short on time then go only to point 2 to see the flamingos.
In Ras Al Khor you can bird watch through these little huts (the 3 points) which are placed in strategic locations so you can observe the wildlife undisturbed.
It would be a good idea to bring binoculars if you have any.
It won’t take you too long to visit this place as that is all you can do there, drive to the three huts and “spy” on the birds.
Something I have to warn you about is that the marsh water can smell pretty bad if the wind blows a certain way.

15. Green Planet
Green Planet is a unique bio-dome and indoor rainforest located near City Walk.
It’s designed to replicate the conditions of a tropical forest, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that houses a variety of plant and animal species.
Green Planet is an educational and recreational attraction where visitors can experience the wonders of a rainforest environment.
Also, you can interact with the flora and fauna and learn about the importance of conservation.
The biodome is home to over 3,000 plants and animals, including birds, insects, reptiles, and various tropical plant species.
You will even find a bat cave, and a tank full of piranhas.
Green Planet offers educational programs and interactive exhibits to raise awareness about the importance of rainforests.
One of the unique features is the Canopy Walk, allowing visitors to stroll through the treetops and experience the rainforest from an elevated perspective.
In addition, you can have a close encounter with some of the resident animals.
Green Planet is right across the street from City Walk so you can see both of them on the same day.
It did not take us more than an hour to see everything.
The operating hours are Sunday to Saturday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm; the last ticket sold at the ticket booth is at 5.00 pm
In addition, various ticket options and opportunities for animal encounters are available.
For our visit, we opted for the general admission.

16. Imam Hussein Mosque
Imam Hussein Mosque is a prominent Shia mosque located in Satwa, Dubai (between Bur Dubai and Dubai Creek).
It is named after Imam Hussein, a significant figure in Islam.
The mosque is often referred to as the Iranian Mosque due to its association with the Iranian community in Dubai.
It features distinctive Persian architectural elements, reflecting the influence of Iranian design.
Its dome and minarets are characteristic of traditional Iranian mosque architecture.
Besides being a place of worship, the mosque often serves as a cultural center for the Iranian community in Dubai. It hosts events, lectures, and religious gatherings.
The mosque is particularly significant for Shia Muslims, as it provides a space for them to practice their faith and participate in religious activities.
Imam Hussein Mosque may allow non-Muslims to visit at certain times.
As with any religious site, visitors are encouraged to be respectful of the customs and traditions associated with the mosque.
Females need to cover their knees and shoulders as well as their hair in order to enter.
The mosque has garments that you can borrow for free if needed.
Also, there is no entrance fee to enter the Imam Hussein Mosque.
17. Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple
Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple, also known as the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, is a Sikh temple.
It is one of the prominent places of worship for the Sikh community in the region.
Located in Jebel Ali Village, the temple is open to the public.
Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple is named after Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
In addition, its architecture is inspired by India’s famed Golden Temple.
The temple serves as a place of worship for the Sikh community, providing a serene environment for prayers, meditation, and religious ceremonies.
Similar to other Sikh gurudwaras worldwide, the Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple has a langar.
Which is a community kitchen that serves free meals to all visitors regardless of their faith or background.
Also, the temple is a hub for various community events, religious celebrations, and cultural activities.
Gurunanak Darbar Sikh Temple features architectural elements typical of Sikh gurudwaras, including domes, a prayer hall, and a central courtyard.
