Homegrown Hideaway Review – Amenities

One of the highlights of Homegrown Hideaway is that it blends a true nature escape with thoughtful, comfortable amenities that make glamping feel easy and stress-free.

Shared Washrooms & Showers

Instead of rustic outhouses, Homegrown Hideaway offers modern, well-maintained shared washroom facilities.

These include flush toilets and clean indoor shower spaces.

They are designed to give guests a comfortable experience while still keeping them immersed in a natural setting.

Also, the facilities are centrally located, making them easy to access from all tents.

They are regularly maintained and offer a level of convenience that elevates the overall glamping experience compared to traditional camping.

Private Fire Pits

Each tent comes with its own private fire pit area.

Allowing guests to enjoy evenings outdoors without sharing space with others.

This is one of the most memorable parts of the stay, as it creates a personal outdoor lounge where you can relax, cook over the fire, or simply unwind under the stars.

Firewood is typically available on-site, making it easy to enjoy a classic campfire experience.

BBQ Grills & Outdoor Cooking Areas

Every site is equipped with a private BBQ, giving guests the option to cook meals right at their tent.

This adds flexibility to the stay, especially for longer visits, as you can prepare anything from simple meals to full dinners outdoors.

Combined with the fire pit, it creates a full outdoor cooking setup that feels both practical and fun.

Lighting & Electricity

The tents are equipped with two small lanterns, which provide soft, ambient light in the evenings.

This keeps the experience eco-friendly while still ensuring comfort after dark.

There is no actual electricity or plugs in the tents.

Comfortable Furnishings & Bedding

Each tent includes a hotel-style queen-sized bed with soft linens, pillows, and blankets.

Making sleep far more comfortable than traditional camping.

The interiors are styled with simple, natural décor, including rugs, a shelf with towels and bathrobes, and small furnishings that make the tents feel more like boutique cabins than outdoor shelters.

The Barn & Event Space

One of the most unique features at Homegrown Hideaway is the beautifully restored barn, which serves as a central gathering and event space on the property.

While the glamping tents offer privacy and seclusion, the barn brings a social and community element to the retreat.

The space is often used for weddings, retreats, workshops, and special events, and it adds a charming rustic-luxury feel to the property.

With its exposed wood beams, high ceilings, and warm, natural aesthetic, the barn feels both spacious and intimate at the same time.

Homegrown Hideaway Review – Events

Homegrown Hideaway regularly transforms from a peaceful glamping escape into a vibrant event space.

Offering a mix of live entertainment, workshops, and private celebrations throughout the year.

Summer Concert Series

One of the most popular recurring events is the Summer Concert Series, held in the property’s rustic barn.

These intimate shows feature Canadian singer-songwriters, folk bands, and acoustic performers.

Giving guests a unique chance to enjoy live music in a cozy, up-close setting surrounded by nature.

Running throughout the warmer months, the series features weekly evening concerts set in an intimate outdoor and barn-side setting surrounded by nature.

Each show typically takes place on Wednesday evenings. The doors open at 6.30 and the show goes from 7:00 – 9:00 PM (with intermission).

In addition to the main performances, the series often includes special formats such as songwriter rounds, tribute shows, and collaborative performances.

Tickets are generally affordable (around $25 per person) and range depending on the event, making it accessible for both locals and visitors looking for a unique night out in Norfolk County.

There is seating available in the barn, or you can bring your own lawn chair.

Also, there’s an on-site cash bar serving Norfolk wines and beers, all crafted by local producers.

The selection rotates regularly, so there’s always something new and interesting to sample.

Songwriters Round

The Songwriters Round is an event that brings together three songwriters at a time in an intimate, listening-focused setting surrounded by nature.

Each songwriter takes turns performing one of their original songs, followed by a short explanation of how it was written, what inspired it, or the story behind the lyrics.

The performance then rotates around the circle, continuing for several rounds.

This format allows audiences to hear multiple perspectives in one evening while gaining a deeper appreciation for the songwriting process itself.

Instead of a loud, high-energy concert, the atmosphere is quiet, reflective, and personal.

The audiences are encouraged to truly listen, engage, and appreciate the artistry behind each song.

The setting inside the rustic barn adds to the experience, creating a warm and cozy environment that enhances the sense of closeness between artists and audience.

Curated by local musician Nolan Gibson, the event highlights talent from Norfolk County and surrounding regions, often featuring folk, country, indie, and roots artists.

Currently, they have two available dates: Thursday, July 23rd, and Tuesday, August 20th, from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm.

The tickets cost $20 per person, and you can grab your ticket for the Songwriters Round here.

Wildcraft Tea Experience

The Wildcraft Tea Experience guided activity takes place across the property’s natural spaces, including wetlands, meadows, forested trails, and along the Lynn River.

During the experience, guests join a knowledgeable guide for a hands-on foraging walk where they learn how to identify local plants and wild botanicals.

The focus is on traditional knowledge and responsible wildcrafting, blending nature education with stories, folklore, and the historical uses of common plants often overlooked in everyday landscapes.

It is suitable for beginners and does not require any prior foraging experience.

Making it accessible for families, couples, and solo travellers looking for a unique outdoor activity in Norfolk County.

It takes 2 hours (10:00 am to 12:00 pm), it runs rain or shine and costs $54 per person.

A visit to Port Dover isn’t complete without spending some time at Port Dover Beach, one of the most popular beaches on Lake Erie.

Located right in the heart of town, this sandy beach offers the perfect place to unwind.

One of the most iconic experiences in Port Dover is taking a walk along the harbour pier to visit the historic Port Dover Lighthouse.

Stretching out into Lake Erie, the pier offers beautiful views of the beach, marina, fishing boats, and the open water.

The walk itself is relatively short and easy, making it accessible for most visitors and a great activity to pair with a day at the beach.

Also, at the end of the pier sits the Port Dover Lighthouse, one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks.

Originally built in the 1840s, the lighthouse has guided vessels safely into the harbour for generations and remains an important part of Port Dover’s maritime heritage.

Its picturesque location makes it one of the most photographed spots in town.

The pier is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset when the light reflects off the waters of Lake Erie and creates a stunning backdrop for photos.

3. Explore Downtown Port Dover

Downtown Port Dover is the heart of this lakeside community.

Offering a relaxed, walkable area filled with independent shops and plenty of places to eat and browse.

Therefore, it’s easy to spend a few hours here wandering between boutiques, cafés, and waterfront streets.

One of the best parts of exploring downtown is its mix of small-town atmosphere and creative local businesses.

Dining in Port Dover is all about pairing fresh, local flavours with unbeatable views of Lake Erie.

The town is known for its relaxed waterfront restaurants, casual fish-and-chip shops, and patio spots where you can enjoy a meal just steps from the beach and harbour.

One of the most popular things to try in Port Dover is the local perch.

Which is Lake Erie specialty that often appears on menus as lightly battered fish and chips.

Many restaurants serve it fresh-caught, making it a must-try dish if you’re visiting the area.
