3. The Corran Ruins in Spirit Rock Conservation Area
Spirit Rock Conservation Area encompasses 87 hectares and is a great spot for hiking (over 5 km of hiking trails).
The upper section of the trail gently winds through the forest, leading to lookout points situated on the brink of the escarpment.
While the trails in this area are mostly easy to navigate, some sections could be rocky.
The two main attractions to see other than the lovely nature are the Corran Ruins and the Spiral Staircase.
You will see the Corran Ruins as soon as you leave the parking lot (keep in mind you will have to pay for parking – see below)
The Corran used to be a 17-room mansion back in the eighteen hundreds.
It used to be the home of Alexander McNeill who was a Federal Member of Parliament.
He lived there with his wife and son. In its glory days, the manor was filled with exquisite furnishing, stained glass, fine art, and tapestries.
A series of unfortunate events led to the demise of the family.
Even though the ruins that remain today are only a small portion of the magnificent mansion that once stood there, they are still beautiful.
Today, only the ruins of the mansion remain, providing a haunting and fascinating sight for those who venture to the site.
Visitors can explore the remnants of the mansion’s stone walls, foundations, and other architectural elements, which offer a glimpse into its former grandeur.
It won’t take you more than 10 mins to walk around them.
4. Spiral Staircase in Spirit Rock Conservation Area
The Spiral Staircase leads down to the edge of the shore of Colpoy’s Bay.
Keep in mind the staircase is windy and narrow!
Hiking up to this point would be pretty easy however, once you reach the bottom of the Spiral Staircase, the terrain gets a little bit trickier.
I would recommend holding the rail as you descend the staircase as well as when following the rest of the trail to the water’s edge.
The views from there are stunning so if you are surefooted, I would suggest doing it.
The Spiral Staircase is located along the 2.5 km loop of the Spirit Rock Side Trail.
Overall, hiking in the area is not the most intense if you stick to the main trail.

While the rocks that make up the cave are made out of softer rock which is why they have been washed away.
