Jordan is undeniably worth visiting for its captivating blend of historical wonders, natural beauty, and warm hospitality.

The country’s crown jewel, Petra, with its mesmerizing rock-carved architecture, stands as a testament to ancient ingenuity.

You can wander through the well-preserved ruins of Jerash, explore the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, and float effortlessly in the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea.

Jordan’s culture woven from Bedouin traditions, vibrant markets, and delicious cuisine, offers a rich and immersive experience.

With its reputation for safety and the genuine warmth of its people, Jordan welcomes travelers to discover its treasures and create unforgettable memories amidst its beautiful landscapes.

Where Is Jordan Located?

Jordan is located in the Middle East, bordered by Israel and the West Bank to the west, Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, and Saudi Arabia to the south and southeast.

The capital city of Jordan is Amman, situated in the north-central part of the country.

What Is The Best Time To Visit Jordan?

The best time to visit Jordan is typically during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months.

During these times, the weather is generally pleasant.

With mild temperatures that are perfect for exploring the country’s historical sites and natural wonders.

Spring brings blooming wildflowers and lush landscapes, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing.

Autumn offers similar weather conditions, with cooler temperatures and clear skies, making it suitable for exploring desert areas like Wadi Rum and enjoying outdoor adventures.

Additionally, visiting during these months is ideal to avoid the high temperatures of the summer months, as well as the occasional winter chill.

We visited Jordan in October and the weather was perfect, there was no rain and it was between 25 and 30 degrees.

Things To Do In Jordan

Let’s take a look at some of the things to do in Jordan.

1. Explore Amman

Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan. Situated in the north-central part of the country, it serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of Jordan.

With a rich history dating back thousands of years, Amman is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It was originally founded in 7250 BC.

Today, it is a busy city known for its historic sites and vibrant culture.

Visitors to Amman can explore its ancient landmarks such as the Citadel and the Roman Theatre.

Also, you can stroll through its markets, sample authentic Jordanian cuisine, and experience the city’s dynamic atmosphere.

Amman can be used as a gateway to other attractions in Jordan, including Petra, the Dead Sea, and the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum.

We spent several days in Amman to explore the city and also to utilize it as a starting point and endpoint for our travels through Jordan.

I have no idea how Jerash is not a more popular attraction, it is huge and so well preserved – a must-see in Jordan!

You will most likely do Madaba and Mount Nebo on the same tour as they are close to each other!

Little Petra, also known as Siq al-Barid, stands as a testament to the Nabataean civilization’s architectural and trading legacy.

Tucked away in the desert landscapes near Wadi Musa, Jordan, this hidden gem offers a more intimate glimpse into Nabataean life compared to its grand counterpart, Petra.

Carved into the sandstone cliffs, the site features intricate facades, tombs, and dwellings adorned with ancient carvings and inscriptions.

Visitors can wander through the narrow passages, marveling at the skillful craftsmanship and imagining the trade that once animated these ancient streets.

Despite its smaller size, Little Petra exudes a sense of mystery and wonder.

Also, Little Petra is not as overrun by tourists as Petra.

9. Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum, often referred to as the “Valley of the Moon,” is a mesmerizing desert landscape located in southern Jordan.

Its vast expanse of red sand dunes, towering sandstone cliffs, and otherworldly rock formations create a scene of unparalleled natural beauty.

Steeped in history and culture, Wadi Rum has been inhabited by various civilizations for thousands of years.

Leaving behind traces of their presence in the form of rock carvings and ancient inscriptions.

We saw ancient petroglyphs on one of the rocks.

Today, Wadi Rum is best known for its breathtaking scenery and unique adventure opportunities.

Visitors can embark on exhilarating jeep safaris, camel treks, or hikes to explore the desert’s hidden treasures.

Including natural arches, narrow gorges, and ancient Bedouin campsites.

As the sun sets over the desert, painting the sky with hues of red and gold, the tranquility of Wadi Rum envelops travelers in a sense of awe and wonder, making it a truly unforgettable destination in Jordan.

We spent a night in a camp in Wadi Rum and explored it on a 4×4 jeep safari.

As well as indulge in water sports such as snorkelling and scuba diving to explore the colorful coral reefs teeming with exotic fish.

We went snorkelling in the Red Sea and we saw a ton of fish as well as a sunken plane.

Beyond its azure waters, Aqaba has a rich cultural heritage, with landmarks like the Aqaba Fort and the ancient city of Ayla.

The Red Sea’s crystal-clear waters and vibrant underwater world make Aqaba a haven for divers and beach enthusiasts seeking to unwind in a picturesque setting while immersing themselves in Jordan’s coastal charm.

There are many options when it comes to where to stay in Amman. Here are a few suggestions.

MENA Tyche Hotel Amman

We stayed at MENA Tyche Hotel Amman while we were in Amman and it was a great hotel!

• MENA Tyche Hotel Amman is located in Shmeisani – a quiet residential neighborhood in Amman
• The hotel offers high-speed WiFi, LCD TVs, a safe, tea and coffee set up, A/C etc.
• Free parking is available as well as an outdoor swimming pool; breakfast is available
• Amman Citadel is 7.1. km away (11 mins) (we had to Uber to it), Roman Teather is 7.3 km (15 mins), Queen Alia International Airport is 34 km away (30 mins).

Landmark Amman Hotel & Conference Center

This hotel is a bit more expensive and more luxurious than the first option but it is closer to the main attractions.

• Landmark Amman Hotel is located in the diplomatic and business districts of Amman.
• It offers free WiFi, it has an outdoor pool and a fitness center.
• The hotel has modern and spacious rooms, satellite TV, 6 restaurants and bars, free parking is available.
• Amman Citadel is 4.5 km away (9 mins), Roman Teather is 5.6 km (10 mins) and Queen Alia International Airport is located 35 km away (30 mins)

And yes Americans and Canadians do need a visa as well.

The fee for the entry visa for all nationalities is 40 JD (about 57 USD or 77 CAD) for a single entry valid for one month and it is obtained upon arrival at the airport.

You can get the visa online before your departure or get the visa on arrival at the airport.

We bought the visa once we arrived (Canadian passport) at the airport and it was an easy and fast process.

We had no issue with obtaining the visa and we were flying from Tel Aviv – took max 15 mins.

You can pay for it by cash or card.

If you choose to get the Jordan Pass, which gives access to all of the main tourist attractions in Jordan, it includes the visa.

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is located approximately 30 kilometers south of Amman.

It is the primary gateway to Jordan and the busiest airport in the country.

Also, it handles both domestic and international flights, serving as a major hub for airlines operating in the region.

The airport is nice and modern and offers facilities such as passenger terminals, parking, and transportation options to the city center and other destinations in Jordan.

In addition, keep in mind that there is no subway/metro in Amman, only buses.
